ISO is the International Organization for Standardization, an independent, non-governmental international organization with a membership of 162 national standards bodies. Through its members, it brings together experts to share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based, market relevant International Standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges. ISO 9001 is is the world’s most popular and most commonly used standard for Quality Management Systems QMS. 

A standard is not a law, but an agreement or best practice that an organization can apply voluntarily. A standard reflects a good level of professionalism. A QMS is a tool with which an organization can determine how it can meet the requirements of its customers and the other interested parties that are involved in its activities.
