November Breakfast Program

A Safe (and Healthy) and Productive, Quality and Waste-Free Process: First

In the 1980s, the insurance industry declared that poor safety performance on capital projects was unacceptable and started pushing the AEC industry to investigate what it would take to prevent safety incidents. In response, general contractors experimented with different safety approaches. And now, those who have started to use lean principles have been reporting safer projects.

Previous CMAA programs have addressed components of the Last Planner System® (LPS), including Pull Planning and Make Ready Planning. We continue CMAA’s lean learning journey with perspectives on the relationship between lean and safety from Dimeo Construction Company.

Specifically, how the well-being of our work force must not be viewed as an independent function or as the responsibility of a specialist within the construction industry, but rather, how work force well-being should be an inherent part of everyday processes. During this interactive session, we will explore opportunities for improvement through the utilization of lean principles / techniques, including First Run Studies, panelization, and waste elimination.
